2nd Cycle Degree Course: FORESTRY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

Academic Year 2019/2020

Category of degree: LM-73

Coordinator Board of degree course: Salvatore Di Fazio
Tutors: Giuseppe Bombino, Fabio Lombardi, Andrea Proto.

The Master’s degree Course (Corso di Laurea magistrale) in Forestry and Environmental Science aims to provide students with the consistent and fundamental knowledge they need to analyze, interpret and understand the interactions between the various landscape systems and their characteristic components, so that in their professional practice they will be able to elaborate appropriate solutions for the main problems related to forestry management.

The many and varied services provided by forests require a study and management approach integrating biologic, socio-economic and technological aspects. Against this background, the Master’s degree Course in Forestry and Environmental Science aims to form practitioners able to solve and manage complex problems concerning forestry ecosystems’ planning, management and conservation, as well as the more general environmental management. Specific reference is made also to the fundamental role played by forests as concerning the themes of biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, landscape valorization, rural and forestry areas’ sustainable development.

The educational program will develop in the students the knowledge needed for: forestry ecosystems’ monitoring; carrying out of forestry resources inventories; forest-fauna interaction management;   economic planning of agro-forestry areas; protected areas’ management; landscape and ecological planning; environmental protection; water management and hydraulic improvement.

The course outline, is coherent not only with the Qualifications Framework for the European Higher Education Area (QF for the EHEA) and the norms introduced by D.M. 270/2004, but was also re-designed in compliance with the criteria introduced by Nota MIUR n.16/2009 for the accreditation of Master’s degree courses. The Course maintains and reinforces the aims already present in its previous structure, descending from DM 509/99; the main changes in fact concern further development of basic and characterizing courses and activities, and a wider coverage of SSDs (academic disciplines for Italian university research and teaching).
