The main specific learning outcome of the Industrial Engineering Degree Course (Bachelor) is to prepare an engineer graduate equipped with a broad-spectrum technical and scientific competence in various sectors of the industrial engineering; in particular: electricity, energy, material and management engineering

The specific training objectives of the Industrial Engineering Degree Course (Bachelor) are as follows:

  • Knowledge of the basic notions of geometry, mathematics, mechanics, chemistry and physics;
  • Ability to exploit basic knowledge to solve applied science problems
  • Ability to develop projects of industrial infrastructures
  • Knowledge of the efficient and sustainable use of electrical energy
  • Capacity to design of industrial and civil plants and networks
  • Ability to verify electrical systems and their compliance to law’s constraints
  • Knowledge of the main typologies of solar and thermal systems and of the updated methodologies for designing them
  • Knowledge of the conversion processes generating Electricity from Renewable Energy Sources
  • Ability to single out the optimal use of both innovative and traditional materials, to understand their potentialities and weaknesses, to develop their possible applications, to manage the transformation processes which involve them, and to assess their life cycle
  • Ability to manage and to cope with industrial processes efficiently
  • Knowledge of the basic organizational, managerial and technical problems which arise in different application contexts.

A solid training activity, involving the basic sciences, the supplementary disciplines and mainly the characterizing disciplines of the industrial engineering, will allow these objectives to be achieved.

During the first of the three-year program, the training activity mainly concerns the basic disciplines: Mathematics and Geometry, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Ccience.  Moreover, the English language test also takes place during the first year.

In the second year, the training becomes more specific and involves disciplines regarding the electrical engineering, the energy system engineering, management and material engineering.

Finally, during the third year, when the final examination also takes place, students choose the courses, which will improve their personal program and complete their training in the engineering fields which characterize the course of study.

Students can structure their study plan so that the achievable expertise in one or more sectors characterizing the industrial engineering area is deepened.

The programs, “curricula”, chosen by students, deal with different aspects of the same training project.

Currently, the active curricula are three:

  • the first one regards the management of the industrial structures and systems and roots its basis on the consolidated interdisciplinary structure of the Department (infrastructural/industrial training program);
  • the second one is a learning program involving deeply electrical/energy matters (with learning outcomes concerning material technologies, especially materials for energy uses);
  • the third one is a learning program also addressing economic and management aspects.

The curricular paths differ at the the second semester of the second year and are characterized by four different disciplines of industrial engineering (electrical, energy, management and materials). The peculiarity of the curricula improves by means of supplementary and integrative competences.

The structure of the course of study is based on a methodological approach; nevertheless, a work experience is strongly supported. As a matter of fact, it involves a mandatory orientation and training internship (6 ECTS - European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System), which is possibly developed within the "Erasmus Traineeship" program and is designed by professors and experts in business relations and European programs.

During the mandatory internship students are supported by tutors.

Actually, a company/firms partnership has been activated within the Course of Study. It participates in the organization of the internship specific activities and provides advice for the organization of some modules of the program.

Within the framework of this partnership, seminars and extra-curricular activities are also planned and performed during the academic year.

Students are allowed to achieve other specific training objectives, by adding to their personal program, different disciplines which may be freely chosen from a suitable set.

The training objectives and the students’ learning outcomes  are designed with a view to allowing the Bachelor’ s graduate either to enter the word of work in the Industrial Engineering field or to be admitted to a Master’s Degree course active within the training programs either offered by the Department or by other Universities

The Department is currently planning a Master of Science Degree Course in Industrial Engineering.
