The Study Course in Civil and Environmental Engineering aims to train professionals who, through a wide and significant knowledge of the basic sciences, develop, through the learning of engineering disciplines, a general competence in the field of civil works (structural, geotechnical , hydraulics, infrastructures and transport systems) and environmental safety (planning, design and management of measures for land and environmental protection including related plants/ systems/structures).

The specific training objectives are as the following:

  • knowledge of the basic notions of geometry, mathematical analysis, rational mechanics, chemistry and physics;
  • ability to use appropriate mathematical tools for modeling and solving problems arising from the applied sciences;
  • ability to transform a physical problem into a mathematical problem and to physically interpret the result;
  • knowledge of the structure of matter and of basic chemical processes;
  • basic knowledge in the field of materials engineering
  • knowledge of the laws that regulate the motion of material bodies
  • knowledge of thermodynamics and civil energetics;
  • knowledge of the basics of descriptive geometry and ability to graphically represent an object;
  • knowledge of geomatics and cartography;
  • knowledge of the laws that govern the behaviour of fluids (static and dynamic);
  • knowledge of the engineering disciplines in the field of civil works (structural, geotechnical, hydraulic, infrastructures and transport systems) and environmental safety (planning and management of land and environment protection interventions, including related plants / systems / structures) and safety (plants and construction sites, civil protection). These allow the carrying out of design activities such as the sizing of simple structures, the hydraulic calculation of canals and pipelines, the sizing of simple geotechnical works, the dimensioning of maritime works and protection of shorelines of limited importance, the design of simple road infrastructures, the sizing of ordinary hydraulic and sanitary-environmental works.
