Objectives The objective of this course is the study of electric machines with particular reference to their use in industrial drives.
Programme Vector diagram of a synchronous machine with salient poles. Slip test. Couple of reluctance and mutual inductance. Synchronous machines with a high number of pole pairs. Characteristics of synchronous motors. Asynchronous three-phase motors. Wrapped and squirrel cage rotors. Vector equations of the asynchronous machine. Scrolling. Test without load and with locked rotor. Determination of the parameters of the equivalent circuit. Motor yield. Start-up and braking. Speed control. Asynchronous motors powered by variable voltage and frequency. Synchronous generators. Single-phase induction motors. DC machine. Armature windings and excitation winding. Armor reaction. Auxiliary poles and compensator winding. Separate excitation machine, machines with excitation in derivation, with series excitation, with compound excitation. External features. Speed torque characteristics. Start-up and braking. Speed regulation. Variable voltage speed regulation.
