Objectives Acquisition of knowledge on the physical mechanisms and mathematical techniques underlying the use of the electromagnetic fields for biomedical therapy and diagnosis.
Programme Fundamental mechanisms of interactions between electromagnetic fields and biosystems.
Electromagnetic fields for diagnostic purposes. X-rays imaging. Computed Tomography and Instrumentation. Magnetic Resonance imaging and instrumentation. Microwave tomography and possible application to breast cancer diagnosis and brain stroke monitoring. Hints on Ultrasonic imaging.
Electromagnetic fields for therapeutic purposes: Hyperthermia. Electroporation. Ablation. Hints on new experimental therapeutic treatments.
Guidelines for limiting exposure to electromagnetic fields. Hints on dosimetry.
