Objectives Acquisition of knowledge on the physical mechanisms and mathematical techniques underlying the analysis of electromagnetic devices radiating in both free space and complex environments
Programme Equation of electromagnetic scattering. Green’s function, singularity and asymptotic expressions. Transmission channel for low and high frequencies. Antenna array: linear and planer array; electronic steering of the beam; reconfigurable array; multibeam array. Wire Antennas: Hallen’s equation; input impedance; directivity; gain; radiative behavior; frequency analysis. Aperture antennas: asymptotic evaluation of the integrals; plane waves expansion; far field of rectangular and circular uniform apertures. Reflector antennas: aperture field; far field; polarization re-use; multibeam reflector antennas; gain; double reflector antennas. Patch antennas. Equivalence theorem. Fresnel’s ellipsoids. Diffraction from dielectric and conductive planes. Link in presence of hydrometeors. Ionospheric propagation. Anisotropic media: Faraday’s rotation. Tropospheric propagation. Indoor and urban propagation. Antenna Noise temperature.
Guidelines for limiting exposure to electromagnetic fields. Hints on dosimetry.
