Objectives The goal of course is acquiring knowledge about the role and impact of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the management of transport services and interaction with other transport services operanting on the transport network. After a review of public transport technologies, the focus is addressed AVM (Automatic Vehicle Monitoring). AVM supports and ensures operational effectiveness, reliability and quality of transport systems while offering capabilities to support other ITS systems (e-ticketing, traffic light priority, etc.) and info-mobility services for users. As well as to draw attention on the individual systems in functional terms, on standards and interoperability, are also analyzed the critical factors that can adversely affect the effectiveness of ITS respect to the achievement of transport company objectives. To respond to critical factors identified is, therefore, it addressed the issue concerning the definition of technical and operational specifications of a ITS system in such a way that these meet the different contexts and operational requirements, highlighting the interaction between the specific system components, the operating/organizational dimensions and related costs of investment/management.
