Objectives The teaching allows students to acquire advanced knowledge on the main techniques of environmental control of spaces inside buildings. This knowledge, integrating the notions acquired in the teachings of Technical Physics, will constitute in depth studies that will enrich the knowledge of the acoustic and lighting comfort sector, so that the student acquires a clear awareness of the wider multidisciplinary context, with a clear reference to the aspects properly related to the sustainability of living environments. The use of dedicated software with performance features contributes to the professional training of the architect.
Programme The course is developed in two ways: a theoretical part that integrates and completes the knowledge is already acquired in the courses of Technical Physics and Environmental Technical Physics for the lighting aspects and for the acoustic aspects of the internal environments.
Lighting technology: Photometric measurements will be reviewed, with which the students will need to become familiar, as they are descriptive of both light sources and illuminated surfaces. Interactions between light radiation and materials will be addressed, studying their optical characteristics, and the aspects related to color perception and colorimetry will be analyzed. Aspects concerning the sources, the lighting fixtures and natural light will be taken care of, today of great importance, also for the potential of energy saving
Acoustics of closed environments: Propagation in a closed environment: the phenomenon of multiple reflections, field reverberating in steady state. Formula of reverberant field and semi-reverberant field. Transient phenomena at turning on and off a sound source: the sound tail, the impulse response of an environment, the backward integration of Schroeder. Definition of the reverberation time and of the other acoustic quantities related to the temporal transients. Sabine formulas for estimating reverberation time. The coeff. of apparent sound absorption, and its measurement by reverberation chamber tests. Propagation through building structures: insulation of partitions, windows, insulation of footfall noise. Measurement techniques and Italian legislation.
Design mode: The theoretical aspects will find professional applications in dedicated projects shared with the student who will develop the design lines in the themes acquired in the theoretical phase.
