Academic Year 2018/2019

Category of degree: LM-4

Coordinator Board of degree course: Concetta Fallanca

The master’s degree course in Architecture-Restoration provides intervention methods on the existing architectural and environmental heritage and it is also aimed to the quality design of the new architecture. A particular attention is devoted to the relationship between the new architecture and both the preexistence and the historical city. So that, the objectives of the proposed program perfectly meet the required learning objectives of the LM4 master’s degree class.

During the two years of study, the growth and specialization of skills acquired in the previous bachelor’s degree course is expected in terms of:

  • historical-critical and historical-technical analysis capacity of the architecture, understood in its wider sense (from the single building to the landscape and the environment);
    - design and executive intervention capacity, related both to the modern architectural production and to the restoration-recovery of the existing building;
  • specific scientific knowledge, critically acquired.

Curriculum

The curriculum of the Master's Degree Program is unique. It is oriented both to interventions on the existing architectural and environmental heritage and to the design of new architectures.

Educational tools

The profile of the studies is oriented to an integration between design disciplines, humanities and technical-scientific disciplines.

Training

During the two years course, the activities are articulated and connected between characterizing, integrative and similar subjects. The characterizing disciplines will focus on the ability to read and interpret problems related to architecture, urban planning, conservation and restoration of existing buildings. In particular, a specific and adequate preparation is provided in the disciplines of the restoration project, architectural design, methods of architectural history, construction science, architecture technology, building physics, urban regeneration, urban building  and historic centers restoration projects.

For similar subjects, the aim is to acquire further applicative knowledge in the field of diagnostics and technical aspects of restoration, as well as the Regulations aspects related to seismic design.
