On 29 September 2020, the Academic Senate and the Board of Directors approved the Plan for Gender Equality (GEP) prepared by the work team of the GEECCO H2020 project.
The GEP is a tool used by the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria in order to promote gender equality aimed at guaranteeing to every individual, by contrasting any form of discrimination, equal conditions for participation in academic life and for the '' acquisition of tools useful for integration into economic, political and social life, regardless of gender, religion and personal beliefs, race and ethnic origin, disability, age, sexual orientation.
The Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria supports the formulation of the Gender Equality Plan also as an implementation measure of the 2030 Agenda, proposed by the United Nations General Assembly, in order to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development at a global level.
The GEP is one of the main actions envisaged by the “Gender Equality in Engineering through Communication and Commitment” Project (GEECCO), funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (Grant agreement No 741128).
The GEECCO project has as its objective the development of Gender Equality Plan (or Gender Equality Plan, GEP) in 4 European universities and the implementation of the gender dimension in the research programs of 2 European research funding organizations. All project partners operate in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field, fundamental for the development of an advanced society based on innovation and economic growth. Additional project partners have the role of facilitating and supporting the implementation of GEPs.
