Giorgio Fazari Scholarship awarded

The commission has been involved in the past weeks in the study of the degree thesis proposed for the achievement of the scholarship.

The candidates: Aloi Ilenia, Characterization of olive oils produced from minor cultivars present in Calabria; Budriesi Vincenza Determination of hydroxytyrosyl oleate in extra virgin olive oils; Caparello Giovanna Recovery of nutraceutical substances from oil waste by membrane technology: study of fouling and choice of materials; Cirillo Noemi Molecular characterization of Liothrips Oleae COSTA in Calabrian olive growing areas; Macrì Rosamaria Characterization of typical preparations of Calabrian table olives; Mancuso Antonella The polyphenol oleuropein aglycone modulates the activation status of PARP1 and its pathway with SIRT1 in murine neuroblastoma cells; Mazziotti Raffaella Monitoring of the tyrosol oiled in olive oils; Rachele Carmela The oiled tyrosol as a potential marker of olive oil quality; have shown that there is nothing better in this renewed interest in women in agriculture and olive growing in particular. In fact, as you may have read, all the theses have been written by young Calabrian graduates who are starting to specialize in the sector.
The words of the honorary president of the commission, Domenico Fazari, father of the late Giorgio Fazari, were profoundly incisive on this point:
"It is great to note that there are only women today to compete for the scholarship, it is a beautiful sign that bodes well for the future of the entire sector."
In short, this scholarship dedicated to a young disappeared olive farmer was born at the foot of the green of the olive trees, among the ageless stumps and turns pink in its development and last act.
The compliments from the commission go to all the participants for the specificity of the topics dealt with, the scientific merit and the methodological rigor. It was not at all easy to choose the winner, the decision was very difficult. All candidates will be honored with subscriptions to the newspapers, Agricultural Informant and Natural Theater, who have joined the initiative and a first and second level course of virgin olive oil taster, organized by the Prim'Olio -Saperi association and Flavors of Calabria.

The first edition of the "Giorgio Fazari" scholarship was awarded to Dr. Aloi Ilenia, with the thesis entitled: Characterization of olive oils produced from minor cultivars present in Calabria, newly graduated from the University's Department of Agriculture. of the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria.
