June 10 Webinar: The complexity of "deciding" at the time of COVID-19

The contrast to COVID-19 poses enormous decision problems: how to close? Which supply chains to leave open? How to reopen? Which supply chains to reopen first? What can be allowed and what is not? These are decision problems that present, accentuated and taken to the extreme by the drama of the situation, characteristics and aspects of each decision, especially in terms of uncertainty and plurality of interests to be taken into consideration.

The plurality of interests to be considered is played primarily in the comparison between the interest in health and the interest in work and economic development on the other. But also, for example, in the considerations relating to privacy in reference to the applications that allow the tracking of the infections. The uncertainty is related to the very limited knowledge that is being acquired with great difficulty on the nature of the virus, but it is also linked to the reaction of the economic system to these extreme conditions.
In this perspective, some reflections related to the issue of decisions can give interesting interpretations of the current situation.

The Webinar promoted by the Di.Gi.ES Scientific Laboratory Decisions_LAB coordinated by Prof. Massimiliano Ferrara will analyze how decision-making processes undergo profound changes at the time of the pandemic and the socio-economic problems that derive from it. Guest of the meeting was Prof. Salvatore Greco from the University of Catania "Gold Medal 2013" of the International Society of Multicriteria Decisions.
