Marino/Monaca Economic and Policy Implications of Artificial Intelligence

It is with great pleasure that the publication of the volume Economic and Policy Implications of Artificial Intelligence edited by Domenico Marino e Melchiorre Monaca and published by the prestigious Springer publishing house which collects the documents of the Seminario internazionale that took place at Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria on september 27 and 28 , 2019.

The development of artificial intelligence will have important repercussions on the economic system and economic policies, opening new scenarios, imposing new constraints, creating new potential risks and developing new opportunities. Artificial intelligence produces and will produce very strong changes in the immediate future. What we are experiencing is a new industrial revolution, only much faster than the previous ones, therefore without the possibility of foreseeing medium-long adaptation times.

The approach that guided the design and development of the targeted seminar tried not to emphasize the positive aspects and not to hide the risks of AI. As in any social phenomenon, the governance of processes and the definition of a system of rules and policies are the aspects that can create advantages or disadvantages and above all they can determine who are the beneficiaries of the advantages and who must bear the disadvantages.

The involvement of professors and researchers from Italian and foreign universities has allowed us to develop and enrich the scientific knowledge on Artificial Intelligence applied to the following fields: economics, finance, law, operating techniques, management, production, human resources, business organization.

It is a book with multiple authors, but not a collection of essays. In fact, although signed by different authors, all the chapters of the book follow a line of development that is traced in the first part of the book and deepen the various aspects in a logical order.

The various parts of the book explore the most important characteristics of AI and will analyze the implications of AI in Economics, Law, Decision Making, Smart Citizen.
