Lecture by prof. Eric Michaud

The Departments of Architecture and Territory - Art and Heritage, Architecture and Urban Planning - PAU, together with the Academy of Fine Arts of Reggio Calabria, propose a new appointment dedicated to Bauhaus and theater. The lesson will be held by prof. Eric Michaud, art historian of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris.

Eric Michaud | Bauhaus and Totality: on Some Figures of the New Man

Eric Michaud is Directeur d’études at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, where he holds the chair of History and Ideologies of contemporary art. Prior to teaching at EHESS, he was Associate Professor at the Université Marc Bloch in Strasbourg (1972-1998) and Visiting Professor in the United States at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (1991-1992 and 2004), Duke University in Durham ( 2003) and the University of Virginia (2005).

His research focuses on the relationship between art, politics and propaganda and, in particular, on the "new man" figures that artists, politicians and ideologues have elaborated between the 19th and 20th centuries.

Among his texts: Les invasions barbares. Une généalogie de l'histoire de l'art (Paris, Gallimard, 2015); Fabriques de l'homme nouveau, de Léger à Mondrian (Paris, Carré, 1997); Un art de l'éternité. L'image et le temps du national-socialisme, Paris, Gallimard, 1996; Théâtre au Bauhaus, 1919-1929 (Lausanne, L'Age d'Homme, 1978); Théâtre et abstraction (L'espace du Bauhaus), translation, introduction and critical edition of texts by Oskar Schlemmer (Lausanne, L'Age d'Homme, 1978).
