Principal aims

  • Provide qualified structural design in civil and industrial fields.
  • Provide intervention design activities on structures or on specific structural elements in order to mitigate seismic risk or to solve structural problems related to the degradation of the structures and\or the materials.

All the support activities are provided to Companies, local Authorities and other Research Centers.


Research activities

  • Analysis and Structural Modelling in static and dynamic field, both through traditional methods or through advanced numerical methods based on Finite Element Method models (FEM) and Boundary models(BEM), oriented to the evaluation of the seismic vulnerability and to the reduction of the risk in general.
  • The assessment of the seismic vulnerability and of the basic seismic hazard.
  • Evaluation of the safety level of existing buildings made up of reinforced concrete, steel and masonry through in situ tests, non-destructive investigations and numerical simulations, taking into account any degradation and regulations requirements.
  • Study and analysis of the structural degradation; structural monitoring in static and dynamic field; interpretation of the actual state of the structure in order to produce predictive models for the implementation of remedies.
  • Mechanical characterization of structural elements of great historical-artistic interest through investigations in situ and specific numerical simulations and laboratory analysis.
  • Design and optimization of structural elements made up of innovative materials for industrial applications.
