Principal aims

The Laboratory of Geomatics was created with the aim of creating and applying a scientific culture as much as possible accessible also by specialists from other sectors to provide a multidisciplinary approach to the acquisition, analysis, storage, distribution, use and application of spatially referenced data, useful for the processing and dissemination of information related to the management of the territory and the environment. The activities are focused on innovation, interoperability and multidisciplinarity concerning the problems of monitoring / control of the territory and of the built with traditional detection methodologies, GNSS satellite, Laser Scanner, GIS, UAV , GPR Remote Sensing as analysis tools and spatial investigations aimed at managing natural hazards, environmental analyzes, multitemporal study of changes in the Earth's surface, surveys for the morphological characterization of the territory of the built and the subsoil.


Research activities

The researches refer to theoretical studies and application models and to the implementation of algorithms and models for territorial and environmental control and monitoring and risk prevention. The studies and research conducted can be grouped in the following areas of research and applied research:
- Traditional surveys with Total station and Level for planimetric and altimetric networks;
- Static GPS surveys, RTK - OTF: Processing and compensation of GPS networks for analysis and monitoring of deformations and for control problems - GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) - GPS (RTK-OTF) for territorial and structural monitoring and control and for the continuous positioning of moving vehicles. Permanent stations - NRTK;
- Numerical cartography - GIS - DEM: Applications related to GIS construction and modeling, to the implementation of 3D in dynamic GIS and to the implementation of GIS-GPS systems integration programs;
- Remote sensing: processing interpretation and classification of images and construction of thematic maps;
- Terrestrial laser scanner: filtering algorithms and reconstruction of the three-dimensional image of the object or surface of interest;
- Georadar (G.P.R.): Survey techniques and data processing and filtering algorithms.
- UAV: photogrammetry , 3D modelling (Computer Vision)


International relationships

The laboratory also enjoys solid scientific collaborations with university institutions and sector companies.
