Professor GIOVANNI LEONARDI
Objectives Students will acquire conceptual tools to verify and design transport infrastructures, to analyse critically the results and verify the effects of possible actions. The laboratory activities are finalized to design and verify infrastructure elements of the transport system. The course topics are the necessary conclusion of the competences acquired by a civil engineer.
Programme The course is articulated as follows:
TOPIC
Technical standard concerning the proposed project theme (0.5 CFU).
Formulation of project idea for the considered context (0.5 CFU).
Critical analysis of the proposed project (0.5 CFU).
Structuring of the project through the drawings required (1 CFU).
Financial-economic analysis of the project (0.5 CFU).

Technical standards for Buildings D.M. 14-01-2008: actions on road and rail bridges.

The theory of the lines of influence and evaluation of local effects
Definition, Direct method, Indirect method, The generalized Betti theorem, Applications to isostatic rectilinear beams. The diagrams of the maxima and minima. The distortions in the hyperstatic systems. The determination of the lines of influence with the computer. Lines of influence of hyperstatic systems. The slab of the bridge decks. Local effects. Plate influence surfaces.

The transverse distribution of loads in timber-framed decks
Courbon method, Engesser method, Massonnet-Guyon-Bares method. Calculation of stresses in beams and crossways. Influence lines for the calculation of stresses in the transverse: congruence method, method of main lines of influence, Massonnet-Guyon-Bares method.

The mixed steel-concrete system
Definition. Analysis of the stress state for short-term loads. Recalls on the modeling of viscosity and shrinkage in reinforced concrete structures. Analysis of the stress state for long-lasting loads. Verification of mixed steel-concrete sections.

The shoulders of girder bridges
Cantilever shoulders in c.a., shoulders in c.a. with buttresses, analysis and design of the structural elements.
