Programme -Introduction to in situ tests for geotechnical investigation and monitoring: General oveview and objects. Italian and european codes for geotechnical investigation.
-Drilling and in-situ test sampling.
-Standard penetration tests (SPT).
Apparatus features, execution and interpretation of test results for geotechnical characterization. Direct application of test data in geotechnical design of foundations.
-Cone penetration tests (CPT) and piezocone (CPTU).
Apparatus features, execution and interpretation of test results for geotechnical characterization. Direct application of test data in geotechnical design of foundations.
-Seismic Geotechnical Engineering.
Seismic wave propagation through soil (P, S and Rayleigh waves). Dynamic behaviour of soils and strain levels. Geotechnical earthquake Engineering: local seismic amplification and cyclic liquefaction of soils: theorical and practicl aspects based on Italian code.
-Seismic characterization of soils.
Cross-hole, Down-hole and SASW. Standard test methods and interpretation of in situ measurements for deriving elastic stiffness parameters. Cyclic and dynamic laboratory tests.
-Permeability field tests.
Pumping tests, borehole permeability tests, permeability tests in fine-grained soils. Execution and interpretation of test results..
-Geotechnical instrumentation and performance monitoring.
Water level measurements, water pore pressures, rotations, horizontal and vertical displacements, strains, total loads and stresses. Application to the performance of geotecnical structures and systems.
