Materials, Sustainability, geometrics and safety in transportation infrastructures (theoretical framework).

Intelligent Transportation Systems
ITS- ways to advance transportation safety, mobility, and environmental sustainability through electronic and information technology applications; intelligent vehicles; intelligent infrastructure; intelligent transportation system through integration with and between these two components; multi-modal initiative to enable vehicles of all types (cars, trucks, buses, trains, etc.) to communicate wirelessly with each other and with transportation infrastructure to alert drivers to potential hazards, helping to prevent potential crashes and provide other safety, mobility, and environmental enhancements; rural and urban safety; assessment of greenhouse benefits; interoperability; controlled attributes (speed, position, mass); transport by road, rail, water and air, as well as cycling and walking, together with applications for cross modal transport and transport hubs. (1 CFU)

Infrastructure management
Maintenance and rehabilitation (sensors, devices, hardware, tools); benefits; LCCA (2 CFU).

Safety Research And Technologies.
V2V wireless communications; V2I wireless communications; radway hazards and dangerous situations; infrastructure controls; advisory driver warnings. (0.5 CFU)

Mobility Research And Technologies.
Wireless mobility applications; adjusting traffic signals; dispatching emergency services; helping transportation agencies and fleet owners manage crews using resources more efficiently (0.5 CFU).

Environment Research And Technologies
On-board equipment to optimise vehicle’s operation and maintenance, to optimise fuel efficiency; to help traffic management systems to optimise environmental parameters (0.5CFU).

Connected Vehicle & Distraction Research And Technologies.
Benefits -sustainability, mobility, environment, quality of life; costs; interoperable networked wireless communications among vehicles, the infrastructure, and passengers’ personal communications devices. In-vehicle safety technologies and applications (0.5CFU)
