Objectives The course has as its objective the study of the basic concepts related to energy production and environmental protection. In particular in the program are recalled some basic concepts of organic chemistry and biological chemistry, these notions are essential to understanding the processes that underlie the problems related to energy production and environmental protection. The student will also have the ability to study and analyze the environment in its many components and summarize their characteristics and to solve problems related to environmental processes. At the end of the course students will be attentive and sensitive to environmental issues and the risks of technology.
Programme The sources and renewable energy:
The coal; Oil; Technology "Shalegas"; Natural gas, Biomass; Nuclear power; Solar thermal energy; The conversion of solar energy through photosynthesis; The aerobic and anaerobic respiration; The fermentation.

General concepts of thermodynamics:
Definition of energy, The First and Second Law of Thermodynamics; Energy analysis and exergy; Energy aspects associated with chemical reactions: "From chemical batteries to fuel cells." Catalysis. Fuels and combustion;

The environmental impact in the production of energy;
Study of the processes for producing energy environmentally friendly, using renewable raw materials; The role of catalysis in the production of energy; The use of the chemical bond as a fuel; The energy efficiency; The efficiency enthalpy; The atomic efficiency; Tools of analysis and environmental assessment of the processes used for the production of energy.
