Objectives The course aims to give students knowledges in exploiting photovoltaics as energy source alternative to traditional fuels.
Programme The introduction deals with the excursus of photovoltaic in Italy, in relationship also with other sources of alternative energy, emphasizing building applications of this technology. Next step face up the characterization of solar energy and the calculus of the radiation on variously tilted surfaces, starting from isoradiative maps and hystoric series of climate data. After that, will be introduced the notion of photovoltaic effect, the study of the solar cells as basic elements of the conversion from solar energy to electric energy and the materials employed in this field from industry. The core of the course develolps the characterization of photovoltaic plants in terms of identification of users, plant configuration, sizing of subsystems. In this context,the thematics of energetic balance will be face, together with cost diagrams for different configurations (range, size, deficit/surplus ratiou). The last part of the course deals with design and test of photovoltaic plants under the legislative profile, enouncing the rules related to the sizing of a plant, his performances, the connection to the electric grid, accompanying documents and safety issues.
Practical classes will be held on specific design case studies.
